In this unit I have learned how to further categorize the present tense into four parts -- present simple, present continuous, present perfect, present perfect continuous. Within these categories, I have learned each specific usage and how to properly apply them to everyday speech. Present simple refers to habits, routines or general facts. Present continuous is used when talking about actions in progress at the time of speaking or around the time of speaking. Present perfect relates the past to the present. Present perfect continuous is used when talking about a past activity in an indefinite time. I have learned how to activate each part in classroom activities. For present simple, the game "find someone who" is a fun way to engage the classroom by encouraging students to find classmates who do a specific activity. For present continuous, a good activity to help students understand is as simple as using a picture with multiple activities going on and having them describe the action in present continuous form. For present perfect, the class can play a game called "change the room" where a number of students leave the room and the rest of the students change things in the classroom. The students then come back to ask questions in the present perfect form to find what has been changed. For present perfect continuous, students can create surveys to find out who has been doing an activity the longest. In this lesson, I have not only further analyzed the present tense, but have also learned how to utilize, identify, and teach other students to do the same.
