In this unit conditionals and reported speech is explained and methods to teach them.
Conditionals are sentences with two clauses – an ‘if clause and a main clause – that are closely related. Conditional sentences are often divided into different types.
Zero conditional = if/when + present tense.
first conditional = if + present simple, will
second conditional = if + past simple, would/could + base form.
third conditional = if + past perfect, would/ could + have + past participle .
mixed conditional = if + past perfect, would + base form.
teaching methods for conditionals are :- split sentences, complete the sentences, chain conditionals, role plays for a specific situation, discussion about moral dilemmas ,what would happen if ?
all these methods help students to understand the conditionals and their correct usage.
