In this unit pronunciation and phenoms are explained and their teaching methods are described.Phonology is a linguistics term. It is the study of the sounds and relationships between sounds that exists in a language. Pronunciation is the way in which these sounds are spoken. Pronunciation involves far more than individual sounds. Word stress, sentence stress, intonation, and word linking all influence the sound of spoken English, not to mention the way we often slur words and phrases together in casual speech. Effective communication is of greatest importance, so we need to choose first to work on problems that significantly hinder communication and let the rest go.pronunciation is an integral part OF English language learning. Stress is the relative emphasis that may be given to certain syllables in a word, or to certain words in a phrase or sentence. In English, stressed syllables are louder than non-stressed syllables. Also, they are longer and have a higher pitch. Intonation occurs when the voice changes in pitch and tone while speaking. Phonetics is divided into three types according to the production (articulatory), transmission (acoustic) and perception (auditive) of sounds. Three categories of sounds must be recognized at the outset: phones (human sounds), phonemes (units which distinguish meaning in a language), allophones (non-distinctive units). Introduction of phonemic chart to the students with examples and proper explanation of these sounds and their origin helps a lot to students in pronunciation.
