In Unit 3 I have learnt about the Theories, methods and techniques in teaching EFL.There are a lot of methodologies a teacher of EFL should consider to help their students progress. Some of these are the Grammar translation which is the most popular method as of today but grammar difference may have on effect to learners. There is also the Audio-lingualism,where Behaviorism plays a big part to be able to learn the vocabulary quickly as well as the pronunciation.I have learnt that the PPP has been the most effective when it comes to teaching lower levels, where it helps student to be more creative with the language. The CLL(Community language learning,it helps the student to have the freedom to decide whatever topics they would like to tackle together with the other students, while the teacher is just observing in case a problem arises. I have also learnt about the ESA,which stands for Engage, which makes the students have an interest and get involve in the lesson.Study phase,In this phase elicitation will play a big role as students will focus on language and how it is constructed.Lastly the Activate phase where the students are encourage to use all of the language they know in a freely and communicative way.ESA has 3 types of lesson called the Straight arrow ESA lesson.Boomerang ESA lesson and the Patchwork ESA lesson where a lot of ideas are applicable to any levels of English learners. In this Unit,Correction techniques was also discussed, as teaching ESL it usual to distinguish between mistakes and errors. It is not to neccesary to correct the student at all times but it is a must to consider student levels and on how not to make the student too be uncomfortable.Correcting written works was also explained in this unit where I learnt the proper usage of symbols for corrections.
