This unit has allowed me to understand the role of a teachers and students in a classroom. A teacher should be kind and patient, have a passion for teaching, he or she should be lively and entertaining, and must a good knowledge in the subject they are teaching. A teacher should be able to correct the students and be able to involve all students equally. A very important role of a teacher is to know the students' weaknesses and if necessary to give help and individual attention to students that are weaker or slightly behind from the subject. There are many roles a teacher will be needed to convey and for instance, a teacher would need to stand in front of the class explaining the content of the subject to the students. This role is said to be suited best among teachers and many Asian countries seem to adopt to this approach. However in my opinion, if this role is used 90% of the time, the students in the class might adopt the idea to only listen to the teacher and the student-teacher communication level might decrease dramatically. This would be a negative impact as the teachers might fail to identify the weaker students from the rest or even establish a good student-teacher relationship. Another vital role a teacher should possess, is the role of an organizer and it is very important that teachers find themselves comfortable in this role. A teacher must be able to access students as this would allow the teacher to give feedback and evaluations. A teacher should be able to prompt students for there will be times where a student would not be able to answer or give proper explanation to a question that is being asked of them, and if this happens, the teacher must prompt the students rather than humiliating the student in front of the class. If the teacher decides to humiliate the student, this would then leave a negative impact on the teacher where the student would no longer feel safe to answer and this might demotivate the student entirely from learning a subject.
