Unit 15 describes the advantages of and the need for evaluation and testing.
An overt and ongoing feedback procedure helps students to find out their level and progress. Some institutions also demand formal tests from their students. Regular tutorials can be a helpful tool to review the work done, what has been good and what hasn’t. Evaluations by the students (such as a questionnaire or a guided discussion) allow students to feedback their perception of the class and helps the teacher to review his way of teaching according to the students’ point of view and adapt it if needed. More formal tests can either help to place new students to their level of language (to allocate them to the right class), encourage them to review and revise their language, show up the remembered and forgotten language (which needs to be focussed on more effectively in future teaching), or prepare students for external examinations.
I have learned how many different reasons and advantages there are to do regular evaluations and tests. And I have realized how many different general external examinations exist.
