This unit is challenging but necessary when trying to understand the most complex rules in grammar. The rules governing modals, phrasal verbs and passive voice are not easy to grasp and most English speakers will have a problem understanding them. Before this unit, I understood very little about why sentences are said the way they are in active or passive voice and even less about the rules governing auxiliary verbs and their uses. Once again the things one takes for granted are highlighted in a way that makes you feel like there are too many complex rules in English grammar to master the language, let alone teach it. I believe I will need to refer back to these materials when trying to teach others these rules. Subtle changes in meanings are crucial to writing or understanding what has been written with the use of commas etc. I find myself humbled by this unit.
