This unit deals with the difficulties of reported speech and conditional statements. It is important to clearly explain the differences between each of the structures for the conditional statements (Zero, One, Two, Three, and Mixed). Foreign learners struggle to keep verb tenses in agreement and to know when to use each structure, because the differences are subtle. Reported speech can also be tricky, and needs to be practiced with fill-gap exercises, group work and "news reporter" role play where students can report on statements and events happening or given to them in the present.
