I learned that when selecting vocabulary for students, it is important to spend time thinking about which words to choose, especially when students' range in English levels. Teachers should focus on appropriacy, frequency, and teachability of the words. After the teacher chooses the words, students need to learn about the meaning, spelling, pronunciation, grammar and usage of each word. The unit then discusses how to teach new vocabulary using the patchwork, boomerang and straight arrow ESA methods.
