Understanding grammar and sentence structure is an incredibly important element of mastering the English language. Native English speakers often instinctively know the ins and outs of grammar without necessarily understanding the rules that govern it. Whilst many will know what a noun, a verb and adjective are, far fewer would be able to define a preposition or conjunction, or confidently break each category down into its different types, let alone state the different rules related to each.
