In this unit, I have learnt the importance of planning a lesson. Although some school of though argued that for the sake of flexibility a lesson should not be planned, but for its function of being an aid to planning, a working document and a record, I agree that a lesson should be planned. I also learnt that when writing a lesson, one should keep it simple and flexible, manage time and balance available skills, one should also be very organised and put all necessary materials needed for the lesson readily available before the class. Finally, when writing a lesson plan, information such as; learner objectives, personal aim, language point, teaching aid, anticipated problems, procedure for teaching, the different teaching phases, time for each activity, various forms of interaction that might come up during the class, class level, number of students, date and time of lecture and the name of any observer present should be documented.
