This unit was particularly dense in information that will be directly applicable to teaching in a classroom setting. I learned of varying types of theories, methods, and techniques that can be used and the pros and cons that go along with each. A favorite of mine that stuck out is the Silent Way, due to its use of constructivist colored rods and its focus on cognition in the learning process. The downside comes if you don't have the time to explain the process and the colored rods to the students and the students can also feel like the teacher is too distant from the classroom activity. Toward the end of the unit, we got into the Engage, Study, and Activate portion and that was and will continue to be useful as I engage in teaching. I especially like the fact that ESA gives the teacher flexibility to read the classroom and react accordingly.
