This unit discussed a number of potential problems that may arise when teaching English as a second language, and it presented some ideas for troubleshooting. I found the advice about how to teach a first lesson quite helpful. The unit recommended not focusing on the course book in the first lesson, but instead on building rapport with students as well as getting to know them and their interests. Warmers can also be used effectively to help students get warmed up and ready to jump into the lesson.
