This unit discussed the issue of using a course text book as well as the choice for a teacher to use other materials outside of the prescribed course book. Not every school will have the same access to materials or give the same emphasis to teaching straight from the course book. Often a teacher will decide to supplement material with authentic or created materials. There are pros and cons to sticking to the text book but there are also pros and cons to using supplemental materials. I learned that a teacher should be able to adapt to the needs of her students when deciding what material to teach.
