This unit covered the other two of four basic skills needed for learning a language: speaking and writing. Speaking and writing are productive skills and they are used to communicate. In this unit I learned the difference between accuracy and fluency, and I also learned which phase of an ESA lesson plan should focus on each. Another thing that I learned is that ESL teachers often unknowingly neglect helping their students focus on developing their writing skills because the emphasis is often placed much more on speaking skills. I would like to avoid this in my own classroom and make sure that all four basic skills for learning a language are taught thoroughly.
