This unit covers the two receptive skills, reading and listening. It was very interesting learning about the variety of ways we actually perform these actions, from skimming for general information to examining information carefully for details. The information regarding how to actually go about teaching these skills I found to be very helpful. Pre-teaching vocabulary, topic selection and text selection all seem to play a crucial role in how effective lessons will be. Adapting to the students needs, whether it is a limited understanding in vocabulary, or just a general sense of apathy regarding a topic, is extremely vital to building a positive and receptive learning environment.
