This unit covered conditionals and reported speech. This unit was quite complex for me, even though I use these grammar forms all the time without a second thought. It is easy to see how an English learner would become frustrated at the subtle differences between, for example, a mixed conditional versus the third conditional. In situations such as these, the teacher must be equipped with enough grammar knowledge to explain the differences as best she can. Knowing these small nuances can also be useful for helping advanced students preparing for exams such as the TOEFL, where the questions seem to be minefields of small details. This unit will provide invaluable reference for me as I continue to learn how perplexing English grammar can be!
