This unit touched on the idea of receptive and productive skills then went into detail on how to teach material that improves the students' receptive skills. With receptive skills, it seems that the straight-arrow strategy would not be the best fit here, but rather a patchwork strategy. It is important to teach more difficult vocabulary ahead of time that may affect understanding, but a teacher should not go too in-depth, risking both bogging down the lesson with too much vocabulary and destroying the chance for students to practice comprehension of material without knowing all the words. Something that I would add to all of this is to elicit the students to pick out uncovered words they don't know then trying to guess the definition based on the context of the sentence and material in general.
