Lesson planning is a very important aspect of teaching English. A good less plan helps the teacher to achieve successful objectives in teaching English in the classroom. A good lesson plan will help the teacher to know what they expect students to achieve by the end of the lesson and how they intend to make this happen. We should also bear in mind that a lesson plan keeps you as a teacher on target and give you something to refer to during the lesson; however, as a teacher, a lesson plan should not stop you from being flexible in the classroom. A lesson acts as a record of what a class has done and which materials have been used. A good lesson plan should be simple, and the lesson plan should be the script. Lesson plan helps us to be more organized as it helps to check that we all our materials and that all our equipments are working effectively for the lesson we plan to teach. A well-structured lesson plan should include, as such, learner’s objectives, this looks at what we hope the students to achieve at the end of the lesson and how we plan to make this possible. The personal aim, on the other hand, looks at what we as a teacher hope to achieve. Another important component of a well-structured lesson plan is the language point, which looks at the theme around which the lesson is based on. The teaching aid will focus more on the materials that will be used to make the lesson more effective and these materials could be, for examples, pictures, charts, markers, drawing papers and exercise sheet. The anticipated problem, on the other hand, will focus on areas the teacher or the students may have the lesson. The procedure will focus on the activities used to achieve the learner’s objective. The phase will focus on the Engage, Study and Activate stage (ESA); whereas timing looks at the how long each activity is expected to take. The interaction section of the lesson plan will more focus on the interaction between teacher-students, students to students’ interaction and students working alone. The class level looks the level of understanding the class has with the language, whereas the number of students focuses more on the number of students in the class. The date/time will allow the teacher to keep a history of what you have done with a class and when. This will also help the teacher who will teach the same class in the future. Finally, teachers and observant name may be useful if the class is being monitored.
