This unit has made me aware of how much a teacher can affect the feeling of a classroom. Some information seems like common sense, such as not shouting at students to show annoyance. Other techniques mentioned, were completely unknown to me. For example, how placing a student’s name at the end of the questions prevents other students from sitting-back, confident that they will not be addressed. The physical placement of a teacher also was new information. I understand why a teacher would stand front and center of the class, but had not considered the benefits of sitting occasionally. For instance, when students are engaged in reading, a teacher may be able to sit, so as not to present himself as overly domineering.
