I can see from this unit that, to my relief, the structures of the past tenses follow the form of present tenses previously discussed. By understanding the construction of present perfect continuous, for example, it is simple enough to construct the past perfect continuous. I can also see how this repetition of structure could benefit English learners. A strong grasp of present tenses will significantly improve learning the past tenses. However irregular verb forms in the past could understandably warrant additional attention for English learners.
