I have learnt about the characteristics of a good teacher. The teacher needs to take a holistic approach in the classroom and needs to be aware of cultural differences and how students are motivated. Motivation may vary from one country to another. Furthermore, a good teacher will be kind, sensitive and understanding of individual difference. Factors such as age, gender, ability, and culture need to be at the forefront of teaching. Lessons need to be carefully planned however, a backup plan or two should be available because the mood of a class fluctuates depending on the time of year (exam time, holidays etc). A teacher needs to be aware of the different roles in the classroom and know that each group of students is different from the next and therefore their lessons needs to be adjusted to accommodate each group.
