This unit highlighted the receptive skills of reading and listening, including why and how we perfom use these skills. Five skills were given and the potential problems that could be encountered were covered, including consideration of the language contained in the text. To overcome these issues attention was given to pre-teaching difficult vocabulay essential to understanding, the use of careful text selection and varied topics, and the use of comprehension tasks. The example lesson plan highlighted how we could achieve these receptive skills using the Patchwork method.
