Growing up in an English speaking country, many of the tense rules were glossed over and just became known to students through practical learning. I had always thought English had just three tenses: present, past and future. Now knowing that the present tenses can be split into four definite subcategories, I can see how these can be extremely difficult for EFL students to learn, and can cause confusion for them. I hope to be able to some-how make this simpler for my students in the future by taking the time and giving lots of practice time for them.
