Unit 8 is devoted to Future tenses system. It covers four standard structures of future tenses (the future simple, the future continuous, the future perfect and the future perfect continuous), as well as gives detailed explanations about usage of “be going to”, present simple and present continuous, which express/are applied to future meanings.
The unit was a great help in renewing my knowledge of future tenses and gaining new information about some structures, such as Present Simple - used to suggest situations that are more formal: Ural airlines launches new route this week; or using future continuous for predicting the present: They will presumably be landing at the moment.
I highly appreciated the prompts given in brackets, which help to see the difference in usage of certain tenses/structures and clear up confusions right away. For example, when explaining the future tense usage for spontaneous decisions and bringing the contrast use of ‘be going to’ for planned decisions: I’ll call Anna, I forgot about her; or I’m going to have my hair cut down this Saturday. I find this idea to be helpful when teaching these future tenses structures to students as well – to let them see the difference in usages and make comparisons at a later stage, thus avoiding confusions.
I also appreciate examples of students’ errors/mistakes and teaching ideas that the unit provides for each tense.
