Much the same as past tenses, the future tenses discussed in this unit are far clearer when a solid grasp of the present tenses is in place. What strikes me is how multiple future tenses may be used to express similar ideas. For example, to make or state a prediction one may use the future continuous “I will be going,” the future simple “I will go,” or the going to future tense “I am going to go.” While different in structure, these have very similar meanings and I can understand how this overlap could be confusing to some English learners (or native speakers). Certainly it helps to be aware of other uses for each, in order to better distinguish and utilize these tenses.
