I found this unit to be very interesting as I learned how to teach the different special group, such as the beginners, the young learners the business English learners and the monolingual and multilingual learners. Beginners can range from absolute beginners to the beginners without the Roman alphabet. Teaching beginners of English will require special skills and psychology. I have learned that in teaching beginners I should always encourage students to speak English in class as much as possible and also makes the lesson as visual as possible to reinforce learning. In my opinion, of all the different learners I must say that I have a special interest in teaching young learners as I do enjoy teaching young children. In teaching young learners, a good English teacher should always make lesson fun by using mimes and gestures to make the lesson more fun and varied. As we all know children have a very short attention span, so as teachers we should also make the lesson short and also try to give as much attention to young learners as possible. Teaching business English can be a bit challenging because not all students will be motivated to learn the language as they are only learning it to keep their jobs. Teaching business will also have various age groups in the class and also various language levels in the class. As English teacher teaching business English, it is very important to carry out a need analysis to find out more information about each student. Finally, let’s look at the monolingual and multilingual learners, monolingual students will all have the same language, whereas multilingual students are from various different nationalities and will have different language, however the one common language multilingual students will have is English, which will therefore be a great advantage for English teachers teaching multilingual students.
