The unit explains in details the usage and structure of conditional sentences and reported speech. Both are commonly used in everyday speech, however due to the complexity they may pose problems for students to learn them. It is therefore advised to teach the material slowly and in stages. When it comes to conditional sentences, I would introduce one or two conditionals per lesson to give time to students to get familiarized with the structures and usage.
When teaching the reported speech, the teacher needs to explain the number of changes that occur when shifting between direct and indirect speech. This includes changes in tenses, personal pronouns, the question structure and time descriptions. Before introducing reported speech the students need to master past tenses and verb forms of irregular and regular verbs.
