Body language can say a lot about yourself. Teachers need to be able to communicate not only with language but also with their bodies. Eye contact is good to establish good rapport with the students. It helps guide the students during the class. Gestures are important too, specially to add visual interest. When a teacher speaks too much and also in a low voice, students can get easily distracted. The teacher needs to speak in a nice pitch of their voice, so everybody can understand clearly and to gesture to get the students attention and call them by their names to build confidence, to knowledge the students. Another thing the teacher need to considerate when managing a class is the class size and numbers of students. Grouping students is a way to make the activity work better, this will depend on the activity, what the teacher wants to achieve. Each of these techniques will have pros and cons. A whole-class grouping could be good when the teacher wants to be in control and have the attention of the class as a whole, but shy students might not want to participate and exposure themselves in front of the class. Students working on their own will give the teacher the opportunity to work with the student individually and it helps the students to be more confident to complete the task. Pairwork allow the students to share ideas and thoughts but the classroom can get noisy and teacher might not have the control of the class. Groupwork is an opportunity to students to negotiate and cooperate in English, they can share ideas and thoughts as well, but it can also get noisy and not all the students will get the chance to participate, which will require a lot of time for this type of activity. Grouping students will depend on the space available in the classroom. Sometimes an activity cannot be executed because of space issues. -orderly rows: teacher has a clear view of the students and they can make eye contact. -circles and horseshoes is a more intimate way and allows the students to be more focused on the lesson -separate tables is more informal and it can create discipline problems. The type of activity will tell which way teacher will conduct the class, their position and teacher talk and student talk. Writing on board is necessary but sometimes the teacher can bring something new to class, use of technologies, for example. Give instructions, use simple language, be consistent, use visual clues, check instructions are essential for a good class.
