Unit 13 was a lengthy one, as it had to cover pronunciation and phonology, both of which most teachers are not comfortable/familiar with teaching. Pronunciation is typically known by native English speakers, but we often do not know why we say words with different stresses or intonations (we do this automatically, without having to think about it); however, students learning English need to learn these things in order to sound like a native speaker. I found that stresses are easy to understand, as they tend to be used to indicate the thing in the sentence that the speaker is emphasizing. Simultaneously, I found that intonations was more subjective to an English speaker's dialect, so it was a bit harder to grasp at first. That said, after following the tone arrows out loud, I found it to be very common sense, and believe that this method of teaching intonation will be quite useful. As for phonetics, I imagine that this unit will be of immense use for somebody like me who is looking to teach beginners and elementary students, as they will need to understand how letters and full words sound. The phonetic script, while being useful to teacher and students alike, will likely only be useful for higher level students who are looking to increase their vocabulary.
