Unit 10 had me watch a video of 2 different English language classes. Using the same teacher and students for both videos we were able to see the contrast of effectiveness in each lesson.
The first lesson the teacher was rude, built no rapport with the class, rushed the lesson along without been clear or making sure the students understood, he seemed like he didn’t want to be there and left as soon as he could. This lesson was not very successful.
In the second lesson, the teacher was smiling, took the time to learn the student’s names, got the whole class involved when eliciting the answers from the class, made sure the task at hand was understood before moving on and altogether gave off a much more open and positive vibe. This class was much more effective.
My big takeaways from these videos was the importance of building rapport with the class, giving clear instructions so students understand said lesson and are engaged in it, involving all students in the lesson and having an upbeat and positive attitude so the students feel comfortable in the learning environment.
