Unit 14 focused on different materials and their uses, specifically authentic and created, as well as making the case for and against course text books. In Japanese public schools, course books are used almost religiously. This creates rather dull classes, and while I have supplemented them over the years, I do tend to rely on the textbooks pretty heavily. There are a lot of really good ideas in this chapter about supplementing these with good resources. I hope that I will one day be in a position to grow a program of my own and make decisions on what course books I will use – at that time that section of this chapter will hopefully become very useful.
