In order to teach receptive skills, one must first understand the four basic skills: receptive skills, reading and listening, and producing skills. For the introduction, a teacher must get the attention of his/her students by selecting a wide range of topic material. This way, every student can participate and find something that perks their interest. Now that we have the attention of the class, we can focus on the reading and listening aspect of reception as both are equally important. Beforehand, the teacher should introduce difficult words to create balance and overall meaning to the activity or story. We can use the skimming aspect to understand the general idea and bigger picture of the activity. It is important to remember to keep your students engaged and motivated as they will continually want to learn and participate.
