In my opinion PAST tenses are really important if you want your students to speak. A good way to make them use the past tenses is by asking them to tell stories. In this activity you can combine regular and irregular verbs and create strong paragraphs. Students will produce long answers while speaking if they combine the perfect tenses with simple past in stories. It will make them feel more confident about their knowledge.
