The different ways and purposes for the evaluation of students are very important for EFL teachers to know. Whether it is progress tests, diagnostic tests, practice tests or the different kinds of external examinations to test proficiency, the EFL teacher should understand all and be able to assist his or her students with them. One thing that stood out for me in this unit are the different kinds of external exams such as the TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, the suite of Cambridge Assessment tests, and the Trinity College London ESOL Skills for Life. Although I have heard of most of them, this unit provided me with more of a detailed understanding of who they have been designed for and what kind of proficiency each exam is testing.
