Here Below you can check out the feedback (for one of our units) of one of the 16.000 students that last year took an online course with ITTT!

In this unit, we looked at common problems or situations which we as ESL teachers may encounter in the classroom. This unit suggested ways to handle with various problems a teacher may face during the start of their teaching career or anytime throughout the teaching career. It's always better to first establish rapport between the students and also between the teacher and the class therefore we shouldn't be focusing on course book in our first lesson. First lesson should be used finding about the students, their needs or aspirations with the English class, and English language level for each student. We would be able to plan our future lessons this way. We may find that there are students of different language levels in a groups, in that case pairing stronger students with the weaker ones will be best resort, although we can also use different type of materials for varying levels or we can use same material and given the students different tasks according to their language abilities. We can not control the number of students in a group, if it's a large group of students them we may think about appointing group leaders which can further help in classroom management. Using group/pair work will also help the teacher to maximize student involvement in the class. Whether it's a monolingual or multilingual class, young learners or business class, we should always encourage the use of English and never respond to them when they speak their native language even if we know that! We will have to find various interesting ways to involve and encourage students who are otherwise reluctant to participate in the class such as role-play or pairing them with stronger students. This way they will not feel intimidated or under pressure. We need to always have our classroom environment easy, friendly and engaging at the same time, so that students feel motivated to participate.
