Unit eighteen was a grammar unit which dealt with modals, phrasal verbs, and the passive voice. From studying this unit I have learned that Modal auxiliary verbs are used before a main verb to add extra meaning to the main verb. Modals can be used to infer advice, permission, obligation, ability, possibility, and prohibition. The choice of the modal auxiliary verb also effects the formality of the sentence. Phrasal verbs are when a verb combined with one or two particles act as one word. Its is also known as multi word verbs. There are three different types of phrasal verbs. The passive voice is when the subject at the end of an active voice sentence moves to the front of the sentence to take focus away from the subject of the active voice sentence and place it on the object.
