As a teacher, I did not like using course books. For reading, I always used tradebooks so the interest of reading would always be there for students to read. If I had to follow other subjects, I always supplemented with other activities like games or experiments of some sort. This would retain their interest while reviewing or learning the concepts needed to be learned. Students need to have activities adapted to their learning since they all don't learn at the same level or the same pace. Gave me a chance to work with groups or individuals as well.
