In this chapter we learn more about past tense. Past tense like present tense are of four types.
Simple past tense: To Simple past tense in affirmative form we add -ed or -d to the base form of verb. In the negative form we add did not or didn't before the base form. In question form we add did plus subject before the base form. Its normally used for past action when time is given. When time is asked about. When action took place at a definite time even though this time is not mentioned. And sometimes the time become definite as a result of questions and answers in the present perfect.
This can be thought by card game, such as memory pair, fish or interview role play. Narrative story telling.
Past Continuous: Here the form used is in past tense of auxiliary verb be plus the present participle (verb+ ing ) it is in question form. Negative and affirmative form. It’s normally used for interrupted past action, it can indicate gradual development in the past when used without a time expression. it can express an action , which began before that time and probably continued after it. Continues tense is used description. This can be thought by detective games, use of diaries or journals or by telling stories.
Past perfect: it’s used in affirmative, Negative and question form by adding had to past participle. Past perfect is the past in the past. It can be thought by storytelling or by giving student a situation and ask them to think of a reason why that situation had happened.
Past perfect continuous: it is in affirmative, negative and question form by adding had been plus verb plus” ing”.It’s used to talk about longer action or situation in the past that had been going on continuously up to the past moment that we are thinking about .
