This unit included information about the advantages and disadvantages of using authentic materials vs. created materials. The lesson also gave an introduction to the benefits and potential pitfalls of using a coursebook. My main takeaway from this unit is that it is important for teachers to be varied in their approach, and tailor their class materials to the English level of the student. For instance, although working through a coursebook for the majority of a class may be tedious, it is probably preferable to reading articles straight from newspapers, at least for beginners.
