This unit went over the importance of speaking and writing skills. Seeing as this unit followed the receptive skills unit, it is appropriate that it is on productive skills. Developing students' productive skills is much more student-lead than receptive skills are; that said, they still heavily depend on good teaching to produce excellent results. A good teacher knows how to get students involved and make them feel safe in the classroom environment, which requires good planning and an adequate knowledge of how to properly instruct students in productive skills. For speaking, it is important to prompt students with accuracy drills and fluency activities, in order to bring both skills to use, as they both are key to becoming confident in a language. For writing, it is important to look at handwriting, spelling, and punctuation, because all of these are taken into account when somebody else is reading their works. Games can assist in helping students have fun while learning inside the classroom. They are useful in teaching both productive skills, and thus should often be incorporated into lessons.
