Unit 14 covered the types of materials used in an ESL classroom as well as the use of course books. It established the difference between authentic and non-authentic materials, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each. This unit confirmed something that I feel I already knew - as a teacher, you shouldn't overuse course books as they tend to make lessons way less flexible and rob them of fun and improvisation.
