This unit covers testing. I’ve never liked tests because they tend to cause stress and a measure of fear in my own self, and others, but they are often required by schools, as the unit brings out, since it gives a way for anyone to see the progress of students and what they know. The unit brought out the benefits of tests and exams as they can let a teacher know how much a student already knows and target problem areas that need strengthened. I appreciated the beginning section suggesting students be allowed to express how they feel the course is benefiting them and whether the material is too hard or too easy. This unit benefited me by teaching the different kinds of tests, such as placement tests to show which students are at what level; the more detailed diagnostic tests that show how much a student already knows so a teacher’s lessons can be more targeted; the progress test to see what the students remember and help with what they forgot, and the practice test for those wishing to take an external test to help them pass tests to get jobs or get into universities abroad. The breakdown of the various schools that provide external testing and what to expect from each was very enlightening. I benefited also from the sample placement test. As I was reading about placement tests I was wondering what kind of content one would include in such a test, and then I came upon the sample. I read the questions through and now I understand the necessary components much better.
