Unit 9 taught why a lesson plan is useful. It explained that lesson plans allow for goal setting and strategies to achieve them. Lesson plans keep a teacher on course and act as a record of what has been taught. Principles such as simplicity, timing, flexibility, and balance of skill teaching are all elements to keep in mind when crafting a lesson plan. The unit gave a splendid check list to keep a teacher organized, which I appreciated since it allows me to benefit from experience instead of reinventing the wheel, as it were. I like the part about chatting with students as they enter the class room. It’s all too easy to be so busy with the mechanics of teaching, that the personal interaction suffers. I also benefited from the list of what should be included in a lesson plan. I would not have thought of coming up with potential problems and their solutions ahead of time. The section on how to plan a series of lessons was short because creating a series of lessons is just making more of the individual lessons, but the things mentioned to keep in mind was very helpful and realistic. I think the mentioning that one adjustment will ripple out to affect all future lesson plans was encouraging because it lets me know not to be discouraged when that happens. Lastly, I deeply appreciated the Lesson Plan template and other resources provided. I will definitely use them!
