I feel that diagnostic tests are a great way to learn where the students are at so that you can plan your lessons accordingly. Progress tests are important to show that what you are teaching is hopefully being learned otherwise more review and planning will be needed. Practice tests are helpful to students to see where they are at and feel like they are moving on or figure out where their struggles are. I don't like to test too often but it does help to plan lessons knowing where students are at.
