Unit 12 covered the productive skills of speaking and writing. Further insight into the study and active stages of the ESA technique were given, such as what accuracy activities, during the study stage, are like. The unit showed how controlled and guided activities are useful during the study stage to teach accuracy. I benefited from this breakdown and the description of the 3X3 drill. The active phase was addressed with its fluency focused excercises. This part of the unit really helped me to see how accuracy activities helps prepare the student to tackle fluency activities, ensuring correct understanding before free form implementation. The section on writing skills was very beneficial as it addressed handwriting, spelling, and punctuation. I benefited from the challenges mentioned in teaching writing. The unit brought out how some words are spelled the same, but pronounced differently, and that a non-phonic language may be new to a student. I benefited from being advised of the pitfalls and how to help the students learn to write. I liked that the unit mentioned the best way to see the proper way to write is to read a lot of English language material. My favorite part of the unit was the section on teaching by using games. I love games and l will use the suggestions to incorporate them into my classes.
