As with the previous unit, productive skills such as speaking and writing are necessary language skills if a student is to become fully proficient in his or her new language. Clearly writing poses more of a demanding set of skills on the learner whereas conversational language speaking can at least be immediately corrected and is often a more productive method of making a student fluent in a shorter period of time. Nonetheless, writing skills still form the backbone of any language and need to be mastered with patience and cleverly devised lesson plans.
