Unit 2 discusses learning and development theories, how languages are learned, the learning environment for students, and the maturation process. There are four major categories of development theories discussed in this lesson, including: maturation theory, environmental theory, constructivism and 'other' theories (including cognitive developmentalism).
The language learned by someone can be distinguished between L1, native language, and L2, language that is being learned. It's important to understand this distinction because the way you acquire each is different. With a native language, you receive enough exposure to have learned a substantial vocabulary and structural and grammatical rules. This is not the case for L2, but you do draw on your learning experiences from L1 as you try to understand L2.
The unit also touched on appropriate seating arrangements depending on what you are trying to accomplish in class.
