Modals , phrasal verbs and passive voice are also important in English Grammar . Unit 18 , not only elaborate on how the above are used in English Grammar but also gives some ideas and aids on how to go about it in teaching . Modals are can , could , may. might, need to , ought to , etc and they are used before other verbs to add or give more meaning to the main verbs.Modals can be used to express; obligation, necessity ,permission /prohibation ,ability and advice .It good to note that modals dont change in form according to person.i have learnt that i can use the following in teaching modals ' role play , rules, signs. Furthermore in this unit , The passive voice (there are two voices used in English) Passive and Active voice In the active voice the focus is on the agent while in the passive voice the object of an active verb becomes of the subject of a passive verb.Forms of the passive voice ( present simple = is /are+past participle( passive)  . Present continuous = is/are being+ past participle( passive) etc etc. Also the three clauses in English language are independent , dependent and relative clause which is further divided into two , that is defining and non-defining relative clauses. Finally , Phrasal verbs or multi-word verbs, consist of a verb plus  one or two particles( preposition, an adverb etc). The three types of phrasal verbs are Intransitive, transitive separable and transitive inseparable.
