I learned about the 5 conditionals that convey alternate realities, wishful thinking, amended past actions, etc. This was difficult review for me, so I imagine it is for higher level learners and not beginners. The tasks and activities that one can create can be very entertaining. As a native speaker previously unaware of this classification of language I'm unfamiliar with how common it is used. The first and third conditional are very practical and used daily. The second conditional can be used for judgment, recommendations, advice. To teach the mixed conditional maybe an activity of "that was a close call, glad I got lucky" could work to get students thinking of hypothetical past occurrences that could have affected the present state. Reported speech is much more complicated than I would have thought (had I known of it). I find in my reported speech I tend to stay in the present and let the context of the conversation convey that the conversation was in the past, so I might need assistance in understanding and explaining "backshifting."
